Gay Marriage—An Oxymoron?

The laws governing marriage should not be changed to accommodate homosexuals.  In the United States of America marriage is defined as a legal union between one man and one woman, as it is in the American Heritage Dictionary (2006).  A small minority, the homosexual population and possibly their families are challenging this definition.  Only homosexuals are affected by this problem, and they consist of approximately 10% of the population.  This population is proclaiming unequal treatment and they are the only ones opposing the “stated definition.”  This population has been rallying for equal rights for quite some time but has only gained media attention recently.  They have not succeeded because their behavior is not normal, or the majority.  Christian leaders founded the United States of America and it is immoral within Christianity to engage in homosexual behavior.  If this problem is not solved to the homosexual population’s ideals it is likely that they will continue to protest.  The whole country should adopt the military’s policy of “Don’t ask, don’t tell,” but gay pride advocates feel otherwise.

Gay marriage is wrong for many reasons.  In The Bible, Adam and Eve were made for each other by God and were told to “be fruitful and multiply.”  Also, the sinful cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of homosexual behaviors of its inhabitants.  Marriage is a sacred union for creating a family and it is impossible for a homosexual couple to create a family on their own.  It is imperative
for the United States of America to remember that our Christian fathers founded our country.

There are historical lessons to remember when considering the legalization of homosexual unions as well.  Ancient Greece condoned homosexuality, especially between men and boys.  This civilization collapsed.  Many of Nazi Germany’s guards practiced homosexuality and their ideas didn’t last more than 20 years.  Again, they were defeated.  Could it be that if this were normal behavior it would have been accepted and successful before now?  Normalizing the homosexual lifestyle attempts have always failed and the United States of America cannot afford to set itself up for failure in this arena.

The United States of America has laws on affirmative action, which makes discrimination based upon race, gender, creed, age, and disability illegal.  Sexual orientation is not included in this description for a good reason because it is a choice.  No one can decide which race, creed, gender, or disability they are born in/with and the aging process is normal.  These are not based upon behaviors and homosexuality is a behavior that people choose to engage in.   Homosexuals may claim that they “feel” attracted to the same sex but our judicial system does not consider feelings to be equal to fact.  The fact is homosexuality is neither normal nor moral.

Homosexuality is listed in the DSM-IV as a mental illness, under the category of sexual fetishes.  Normal and accepted behavior is not listed in any psychological literature.  Psychologist and psychologists still agree that this behavior is wrong no matter how “nonjudgmental” they may claim to be.  The majority of these professionals would attribute homosexual behavior to a catastrophic childhood event.

Acknowledging homosexual marriage would erode the family value system our county was founded upon.  Acknowledgement would set our future generations into believing that this kind of behavior is accepted and that they would be fine to experiment with homosexual behavior because there would be no risk of becoming pregnant, the greatest fear of heterosexual sex.  It is a fact that homosexual sex is much riskier when it comes to STD’s such as AIDS.  Does the United States of America really need to increase our HIV positive population?

Statistically, homosexual unions are much shorter than heterosexual unions based upon different cultural values.  Culturally less stable, homosexuals cannot value monogamy as much as heterosexuals.  Giving homosexuals the right to marry is only putting money in the legal system and into divorce lawyers pockets when divorce is the only solution for putting heterosexual values on the homosexual culture.

It would be in the best interest of the United States of America to keep the status quo of the military.  Failure to do this would hurt the economy by forcing companies to acknowledge a union that could be made by best friends or roommates and cover their medical expenses.  Just like the immigration laws and marriage only to obtain a green card, homosexual marriages would be under intense scrutiny.  Our officials have more important things to worry about than if homosexual unions are actually constitutional..  Also, anyone can be sexual and that does not equal the right to be married.  Sexuality is a choice and making wrong decisions in this category should not be grounds for equal treatment.  Is the choice to be a murderer afforded the same luxuries?  Sexuality should be private for everyone but in order to afford the same rights people should express themselves in the way God intended—one man and one woman in order to create a family.  To do otherwise would make marriage a fallacy—why get married to the one you love when you could “marry” your best friend and have all the benefits?  Our future generations deserve better.  Private lives need to be kept private and legitimate families deserve the utmost respect because they are the only ones who truly deserve the benefits of “marriage.”
